Iowa Alcohol & Addiction Treatment Center

Radix Recovery provides drug rehab, alcohol rehab, medical detox, and addiction treatment for Sioux City residents at our Cedar Rapids campus, about three and a half hours east across US-20. Why Would Sioux City Residents Drive Across Iowa for Rehab?

Let us be honest about the drive first: three and a half hours is real. Here is what it buys. Sioux City sits at a three-state corner where the Missouri River trade routes made it a distribution hub for everything, drugs included, and Sioux City’s own police chief has said publicly that Iowans are dying of fentanyl overdoses in record numbers.[2] Recovering inside a supply hub means the substance is never more than one familiar phone call away.

Three hundred miles east, that phone call loses its power. Research on effective treatment is unambiguous that environment and relationships have to change for recovery to hold,[1] and for Siouxland residents, distance is the treatment plan working before you even arrive. Nobody stumbles into old contacts. Nobody drops by. The only agenda within reach is getting well.

For residential treatment, that trade is math that favors you: you live at the campus for 30 to 90 days either way, so the drive happens a handful of times while the distance protects you every single day. And our admissions team plans the whole trip with you, down to the arrival hour.

Distance as medicine

Three hundred miles between you and the hub, the contacts, and the routine.

The drive is rare, the benefit daily

Residential care means the trip happens a few times; the separation works around the clock.

The Addiction Problem in Sioux City, Iowa

Sioux City’s police chief put it plainly at a federal roundtable: the surge in fentanyl deaths is no longer something that happens elsewhere, and Iowans are now dying of fentanyl overdoses in record numbers, with Siouxland first responders too often arriving after Narcan can help.[2] That is the reality of a metro that sits on major distribution corridors serving three states.

Meth is the other half of Siouxland’s story, and it is now the whole state’s headline: methamphetamine passed opioids in 2024 as Iowa’s leading cause of overdose death and has held the position since, with the DEA reporting Iowa meth seizures up 54 percent in 2025 and warning the supply is exceptionally pure.[3] There is no Narcan for meth. There is only treatment.

State health data adds the line that should end the debate about waiting: 85 percent of Iowans lost to overdose had at least one missed chance for intervention.[3] This is that chance: (319) 270-2890.

Addiction Treatment Programs for Sioux City Residents

Radix Recovery runs Iowa’s full continuum under one roof: medical detox, residential inpatient, PHP, IOP, and outpatient continuing care with one clinical team. For Siouxland residents the model is built around the distance: most complete detox and residential care with us, 3 to 7 days of detox first, then step down with a discharge plan wired into supports back home. Meth, fentanyl, alcohol, cocaine, benzodiazepines: these eight programs are the arsenal.

Alcohol Detox

Stockyard-town drinking culture runs generations deep in Siouxland. When it stops being a choice, medically monitored withdrawal with 24/7 nursing is the safe way off, 3 to 7 days.

Alcohol Rehab

Structured alcohol rehab past detox, with treatment for the stress and depression that long hours and long drinking braid together.

Drug Detox

Physician-led stabilization for meth and fentanyl, Siouxland’s two heaviest hitters, plus cocaine and benzodiazepines, with Suboxone and Vivitrol where indicated.

Inpatient Rehab

30, 60, or 90-day residential pathways. For Sioux City residents this is the heart of the plan: live here, heal here, three hundred miles from the supply.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

4 to 8 hours of daily clinical programming with off-site living, consolidating gains before the drive home west.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

3 days per week, 9 to 20 hours. Siouxland residents often complete IOP here before discharge or transition to coordinated care back home.

Relapse Prevention & Continuing Care

Going home to a distribution hub demands the most detailed plan we write: contacts cut, supports scheduled, therapy continuing, warning signs named.

Alumni Program

Radix community members stretch border to border across Iowa, and alumni support does not care how many miles are on the odometer.

Drug & Alcohol Rehab Serving Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff, and Three States

Siouxland is a three-state metro wrapped around a river bend, and addiction has never checked which side of the border it works. Neither do we.

Sioux City, Morningside & Leeds

From downtown and Historic Fourth Street to Morningside, Leeds, and the North Side, Sioux City proper is the anchor of our western service area. The drive east is long, and that is the point: our admissions team turns it into a plan, not an obstacle, on your very first call.
Route: US-20 East across Iowa to I-380 South into Cedar Rapids. About 3.5 hours.

South Sioux City, North Sioux City & Sergeant Bluff

The Nebraska and South Dakota sides of the metro share the supply problem and the way out. Out-of-state plans frequently include PPO benefits usable in Iowa, and we verify exactly what yours covers, free, before you commit to the drive.
Route: cross into Sioux City, then US-20 East to I-380 South. About 3.5 hours.
Also serving Le Mars, Moville, Lawton, Hinton, and every Siouxland town on either side of the rivers. One call plans the whole trip.

Sioux City Drug Rehab Questions, Answered

Our campus is in Cedar Rapids, about 3.5 hours east of Sioux City, and we serve Siouxland deliberately: for many people in a supply-hub metro, the distance is not the obstacle to recovery, it is the strategy. One call handles travel, insurance, and admission timing.
About 285 miles and roughly 3.5 hours: US-20 East across the state, then I-380 South into Cedar Rapids. Our admissions team plans the trip with you on the first call.
For residential treatment, usually yes. You live at the campus for 30 to 90 days either way, so the drive happens only a few times while 300 miles of separation from Siouxland’s supply works for you every single day. What matters is the continuum, and ours is complete.
We schedule family therapy in consolidated blocks so one trip carries real clinical weight, run phone and video updates with approved family members between visits, and build the discharge plan with your family in the room, in person or virtually.
Yes. Alcohol runs deep in Siouxland and remains one of the most common reasons the metro calls us. Treatment typically starts with 3 to 7 days of medically monitored alcohol detox with 24/7 nursing, then continues through the residential continuum.
Methamphetamine now leads Iowa overdose deaths, and unlike opioids it has no reversal drug, which makes treatment the only real intervention. We treat meth addiction daily: physician-led stabilization, structured behavioral therapy, and dual diagnosis care for the depression and paranoia that meth leaves behind.
Yes. South Sioux City, North Sioux City, and Dakota Dunes residents are welcome, and many out-of-state commercial plans carry PPO benefits usable in Iowa. We verify your exact coverage for free before you drive a mile.
We are in network with Wellmark BCBS, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, Midlands Choice, Cigna Healthcare, Health Choice, and Medical Associates, and we accept Iowa Medicaid through Wellpoint Iowa and Iowa Total Care. Verification is free: (319) 270-2890.
Usually within 24 hours of the first call. We verify insurance on the line, complete screening the same day, and set an arrival window around the drive, with morning departures arriving to an afternoon admission.

Three Hundred Miles From the Supply. Zero Miles From Help.

One confidential call plans it all: free insurance verification for Iowa, Nebraska, or South Dakota plans, a clinical assessment, and a trip with a front door waiting at the end.
