The Founder’s Story
Radix Recovery began with the vision of Dr. Courtney Brennaman, our Founder. As a child, Courtney watched her father, a physician, struggle with addiction. When she was 10 years old, he sought treatment and achieved recovery. That transformation changed her family and shaped the rest of her life. The hope and healing her family experienced became the foundation for what would eventually become Radix Recovery, a place where other Iowa families could find the same change.
The Partnership
Radix Recovery entered its next phase with the formation of Higley Partners, where experts in addiction treatment united with Covenant Family Solutions, Behavioral Health Partners, and Dahnovan Builders. Covenant Family Solutions leads clinical operations and the day-to-day delivery of care, Behavioral Health Partners provides addiction treatment consulting, brand strategy, and outreach, and Dahnovan Builders led the restoration of the historic mansion.

The Restoration
In 2024, the partnership received a $2 million grant from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds [5] to support development of the facility. The Higley Mansion itself, a Cedar Rapids landmark that had served as a senior living home before sitting vacant during the COVID era, was restored with care into a healing environment that honors its history.
Radix Recovery was founded by Dr. Courtney Brennaman. She is joined by a group of founding members who have supported her to build the vision of bringing quality addiction care to Iowa.

Dr. Christenson is a founding partner of Radix Recovery and has helped develop the services and build the team from the ground up.

Dr. Courtney Brennaman is the Founder and Board Chair of Radix Recovery. The two additional founding members are Dr. Jacob Christenson, CEO, and Adam Vibe Gunton, Director of Marketing.
Radix Recovery is powered by the Higley Partners, a collaboration of three organizations. Covenant Family Solutions leads clinical operations and day-to-day delivery of care. Behavioral Health Partners provides addiction treatment consulting, brand strategy, and outreach. Dahnovan Builders led the restoration of the historic Higley Mansion that now houses the program.
The Higley Mansion is a historic Cedar Rapids landmark. Before becoming Radix Recovery, it served as a senior assisted living home and then sat vacant for over two years after closing during the COVID era. Its restoration into a treatment center reflects the same idea at the center of recovery itself, that something meaningful can be rebuilt.
Radix is the Latin word for root. The name reflects our core belief that lasting recovery requires addressing addiction and the mental health conditions underneath it at the source, then helping residents rebuild their lives from that foundation.
